Dementia Center Program Volunteer

Program Overview:
Estes Dementia Day Center provides enriching activities, emotional support, and a safe environment for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for participants through meaningful engagement and companionship.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff with group activities such as music therapy, art projects, games, and gentle
    exercise
  • Provide one-on-one companionship through conversation, reading, or sensory
    stimulation
  • Support participants during meals and snack times
  • Help with setup and cleanup of program spaces
  • Observe and report any changes in participant behavior or mood to staff
  • Promote a calm, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere

Qualifications:

  • Compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with staff
  • Comfortable interacting with individuals experiencing memory loss or cognitive decline
  • Prior experience with older adults or dementia care is helpful but not required
  • Background check required to volunteer due to a vulnerable population group.

Time Commitment:

  • Minimum of 4 hours per week
  • Flexible scheduling available during program hours (weekdays)

Training & Support:

  • Orientation and dementia care training provided
  • Ongoing supervision and support from program staff
